Mission Carmel, May 22, 2013

Mission San Carlos Borromeo del Rio Carmelo

With five museums, the Carmel Mission addresses the history of one of California’s most important heritage sites.
The Basilica Church, a registered National Historic Landmark, is the centerpiece of the Mission.
The Harry Downie Museum, located in the forecourt to the Basilica,
Behind the Basilica, is the Munrás courtyard.
Adjacent to the Basilica, the Jo Mora Chapel Gallery.
In Convento Museum, through which one exits the Mission complex, is found the cell used by Blessed Junipero Serra and were he died in 1784.

In an alcove between the Basilica and the museum is a magnificent diorama of Jesus Christ from when he was born until his death. It is set in a village during that time frame. These photos are not chronological order but what my eyes were drawn toward.

We went into Carmel and looked at the beach and all the shops. The Clint Eastwood Restaurant that we wanted to visit was not open for lunch, so we found the delightfully hidden Forge in the Forest.
Not through these doors.

The entryway was alongside the white
wall into this beautiful setting. We first
sat at the table near the hearth, but the
sun was too bright.

We sat at these side tables. Some ladies
came with their dogs and sat across from
us. Great to have such an outside place.
Visited by this blue bird.

Marion's favorite photograph that she took here.
