Self-Realization Gardens Feb 19, 2012

The Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine was dedicated by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1950. The ten-acre site, with its gardens and natural spring-fed lake, is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including swans, ducks, and trees and flowers from around the world. The grounds include a Court of Religions honoring the five principal religions of the world. The windmill and houseboat were built for movies are now places for meditation. My cousin Cynthia Kelly and I had a lovely afternoon, strolling around, praying in the windmill chapel and being delighted by the newly acquired swans. The guide said the swans are in their teens and are doing teenager things. <smile>
Cynthia and Nancy Olson are my 2nd cousins whose Grandmother is my Grandfather's sister Matilda Nyblad Bergstrom who is recorded in Carol Lake's Bible. Now you have met 4 different branches of the Oskar Nyblad family.

We spent about 30 min. in
contemplative prayer with
a few others inside.
The photo doesn't do justice to the
bright pinks and purples!

These gardens certainly
help the desire to search
for God in all places.

Spaces to rest and enjoy the beauty.
