San Diego Zoo Safari Part 2 Birds

The first bird sanctuary was enclosed for the safety of the birds. The pigeon and the ibis knew no fear and walked right up to people. A large board helped us to identify them.
The plumage is beautiful!
Sorta wonder if it's a cross
between a peacock?

But probably not since it's
from New Guinea
This bird was so self confident,
I had to walk around it!!!!

Never knew this is what as Ibis looked like
Couldn't find the name of
these crane looking birds.
They were going at it with
their bills, clacking and
squawking at each other.
This would be a great photo to
ask for quotes. Wouldn't you
like to know what they are thinking?
Perhaps, "You know, I won"

Then I went to an open lagoon and on around the park.

This pelican sat so still
and was so white,
at first I thought
 it was a statue.
In the middle of the lagoon was a
nesting site with several pairs.
I wonder if she is sitting on eggs?

The bird show was similar to
the one at Disneyworld, with it's
own special exhibits and jokes.
This talking grey parrot was
lots of fun and sounded human!
Part of the Zoo's conservation efforts
are to bring the California Condor
back. They imported Andean Condors
to learn about their habits and then
successfully bred California Condors
and reintroduced them back into nature.

The birds flew through the stands
and then back down to the trainers.
Isn't this a beautiful hawk?
I had to laugh at the flamingos
as they wear their own pillows!
Even standing it's funny how they
tuck their heads around to sleep.
I don't know what the ducks were finding in the water
spout, perhaps some kind of lunch? This was more fun
to watch than the feeding frenzy at another place.
Skylar was always taking
photo's of flowers, so
these are a sampling for her.

God's special beauty, dew
on the spiderweb.
Must be a male as the 'flower'
looks like the Sego palms at home.
I think these look like Dr. Seuss flowers!

  1. Amazing photos: you have a good eye, a steady hand and the patience to get the great shot. I appreciate all that goes into the process, much like the uncountable hours that it takes to create a needlepoint piece. Beautiful and worth the effort. Thank you so very much for sharing!
