Sacramento March 22, 2013

For some reason, we never visited Sacramento during the three times we lived in California. It's always been in the back of my head that I would like to see the Capitol building. The tour guide told us the Capitol was not finished when the Civil War happened. California formed several units that fought for the north so man power was slim. A little known fact is that women built a large part of the Capitol. It was originally modeled after the US Capitol. When it was modernized and retrofitted during the 1980 bicentennial restoration project, it did not get the statues all along the top of the roof that you can see in the old photo.
Old Capitol
New Capitol today.
I still haven't seen a fruit orchard in
full bloom, so I really enjoyed these
Japanese Cherry Trees. The school
children led me to the right door.
As you enter under the beautiful dome,
you are greeted by Columbus being sent
to the new world by Queen Isabella.

Green for Assembly as in England.
Painting of Lincoln behind the Speaker.
Red for the Senate as in England.
Painting of Washington behind the Speaker.
Bacteria Bear, named because the
school children can't keep hands off!
State seal was in many places.
The Governors get to chose the artist and the background of their portrait . There were many jokes about the painting of Jerry Brown. He is Governor for his second time as of January, 2011.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has not completed his portrait as of yet.
Edmund G. "Pat" Brown, Sr,
Governor when we lived
in Lemoore
Edmund G. "Jerry" Brown, Jr,
the son, the first time he was Governor
when we lived in Long Beach.

Ronald Reagan was governor when we
lived in Monterey
On I-5, I was able to capture
some of the water system.
